Just Mustard – Seven

After blazing a trail with their debut album Wednesday Dundalk’s own Just Mustard tease us with another new single ‘Seven’. Released on the bands own Pizza Pizza record label, it builds on the success of both the album and their previous single ‘Frank / October’. Just Mustard have an uncanny knack of seamlessly fusing soaring post rock with ethereal soundtracks. The music they have created so far has set them apart from their peers and ‘Seven’ is no different.

The first thing you notice is the groove. This track swaggers along whilst the rebellious guitars shriek and howl over the ever-steady bassline. When Katie Ball’s vocals come in, the grit and edge of the instruments is set into stark contrast with the mellifluous and ethereal beauty of her voice.   It all makes for an eerie and compelling listen.

The video continues that theme with an exploration of perspective, perception and faith. The use of different media, from stop motion to paintings, play with the viewers expectations throughout.

As the song builds and builds to the repeated refrain of “Do my head in” you can’t help but think The Chemical Brothers would do a killer remix. That said the single comes with three alternate mixes from Trick Mist, vessel and jm10hands.

This song will surely see Just Mustard take the next step towards the massive stars they will undoubtedly be.

‘Seven’ is available now from Pizza Pizza Records and from the bands own Bandcamp page.
