Sometimes something comes along which ticks the box.
Collectively we hear a lot of new music hear at Musicscramble, but the new single from Devon outfit Black Foxxes didnt so much tick a few boxes, it grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and made me remember those heady days of my youth when new bands and new music made me excited.
‘I’m Not Well’ is both the title track and second single to be taken from Black Foxxes’ forthcoming debut album, due out in August. The band appear to make songs that move from a whisper to a roar with a rampant, ragged glory, plus a level of strength drawn from the tight weave of music and message.
Here Black Foxxes have planted their flag deep. Life through the eyes of vocalist / guitarist Mark Holley may not be rose-tinted, but his experiences add real weight to the song-writing and the overall sensibility.
The band will play a number of high-profile festivals this summer, including a headline performance on the Introducing stage of Radio One Big Weekend and Reading & Leeds, but we of course will catch them at Download (but that probably says more about us!)
