It’s been reported this morning that former Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman, Scott Weiland, has passed away at the age of 48. The sad news has since been confirmed by the singer’s Facebook page.
Reports are he passed away in his sleep whilst on a tour stop in Minnesota. He was currently on tour with his latest project, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts.
Whilst there have been no further details, Weiland has struggled for many years with addiction and substance abuse issues. Despite this, he was a vital performer in the early 90’s post-grunge movement, with Stone Temple Pilots’ debut album, Core, hitting number 3 on the Billboard album charts and it’s follow-up, Purple, making number 1. In his day, Weiland was a sensational live performer.
