It really doesn’t feel like it, but it’s been 15 years since OPM released their debut album, Menace to Sobriety. With tracks like ‘Heaven is a Half Pipe’, ‘El Capitan’ and ‘Stash Up’ they fused fun, beats, hooks and their Southern Californian party attitude to put together an album that still sounds fresh.
To celebrate the anniversary, the band have released a 4-track EP, The Minge Dynasty. Whilst, it has to be said, this isn’t their strongest output, there’s enough there to be quietly optimistic about future releases. In particular ‘Speakers’ has a great groove to it. Both ‘Just Lust’ and ‘Why You So Crazy’ have that typical OPM feel that makes you want to, at the very least, do a bit of shoulder-rolling.
The Minge Dynasty is out now and they’re also hitting the UK and Europe for a series of dates, including one at Audio in Glasgow on the 3rd of September.
