I have been meaning to catch Glasgow four-piece Das Plastixx live since their debut single ‘Fahrenheit’ caught my attention back in May this year.
As the weeks have slipped by I’ve missed several opportunities to do just this but I finally got my act together and caught their set at Broadcast in Glasgow on the 1st of July when they were supporting Heavy Rapids.
The seven song set kicked off with ‘Button Up’ and immediately Mark showed he wasn’t messing about with some lovely lead guitar over Jamie’s thumping bass. This was all held together by Gavin on drums while Jack weaved keyboard and vocal through it all.
Next up was ‘Oblivion’ but it wasn’t until ‘Magpie’ that I could get fully into a familiar song. (Ironically?) there were some minor drum gremlins on ‘You’re Not in Control’ which were thankfully sorted before ‘Meridian’, which featured some incredible bass guitar.
After ‘How Does It Feel?’, the final song of the set was the previously mentioned ‘Fahrenheit’, which is still running around my head now and has been all day. Surely a good sign.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Das Plastixx in a live setting and have to admit to being very pleasantly surprised by them. The interplay between guitar and bass was a real joy and the technical ability displayed from these boys was impressive.
It’s early days for the band but with rumours of an EP later in the year I’ll be keeping my eye on them with keen interest.
