Returning from their recent trek around Europe in support of Black Stone Cherry and with a massively successful, Grammy nominated album – Mister Asylum – under their belt, Highly Suspect keep their form flying high with a Californian style in latest offering ‘Serotonia’.
From the Slow and steady rhythm to the screeching guitar solo, this psychedelic and trippy track is filled to the brim with a hip seventies groove. We’re introduced to an ambling guitar which is straight from the Eagles’ playbook. Johnny Stevens’ delivery of such harsh lyrics like “I wish that everyone I knew was dead” is true to form and shows that while the stylings of the music present in the song are different, the band can still offer a consistency to keep fans excited about this new material.
The video which accompanies the track is simple but powerful as the focus is drawn to Stevens’ lyrically metaphorical journey from a snow-bound NYC to the gleaming desert of Joshua Tree in California. The frontman, credited with producing the video, knows no limits and this is displayed perfectly with the combination of a great track being literally played out in this powerful visual.
