RIP – Diane Charlemagne 1964 -2015

Songwriter and vocalist Diane Charlemagne has died, she was 51.

I first heard Charlemagne when she rose to fame as the voice of British outfit Urban Cookie Collective. Her soulful vocals appeared on a string of drum & bass hits, including Goldie tunes “Inner City Life” and “Kemistry.” She also spent time touring with Moby’s live band where I was lucky enough to experience her enormous vocal talent first-hand.

In recent times Charlemagne battled cancer and regularly kept her fans updated on Twitter. On October 28th she lost that battle. Goldie confirmed the news on Twitter saying,

“So she went into the early morning …God rest her soul  what a gifted voice.”

Take a moment to listen once again to her voice with the song which I will most remember her for.
