Janet Devlin – House of Cards

Regular readers of Musicscramble will know I’m a big Janet Devlin fan.

The one-time X-Factor contestant successfully undertook a PledgeMusic campaign to crowd-fund and record her debut album. I pledged to support and the album Hide and Seek (with songwriting pairing from Newton Faulkner, Joshua Radin and Jack Savoretti) was finished last year. I love the album and it made it into my Top Ten Albums of 2013.

However, the physical copy of the CD (I pledged for a signed one) never materialised. As time passed the reason became clear; Janet had written and recorded some new songs and signed to a record label for the strongest distribution possible.

The physical album has a few track changes from last year’s Hide and Seek to include the new material. One of the new tracks, ‘House of Cards’ is being released as a single. Janet’s voice still has that celtic lilt which is what made me sit up and take notice to begin with, and her indie influences are coming over strong. I for one am looking forward to hearing what the new version of the album – now called Running With Scissors – will be like.

You can order both Running With Scissors and the single ‘House of Cards on iTunes now. But first watch the video for the single below.
