For me February has been a great month for new music and gigs. I could write about those (especially the fantastic Beyoncé and The Strypes gigs I went to) but something else kept happening this month which I loved even more.
I’ve always been a sucker for cover versions. I’ve always loved how other bands interpret a song and make it their own, it brings a new twist, a new angle with which to hear a song. Take the Travis cover version of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time‘ as a perfect example.
However this love is taken a notch higher when it happens at a gig. This month Bruce Springsteen has been touring the Southern Hemisphere, Bruce has opened each show with a cover version of an artist (most of the time from that city).
It has been amazing fun to watch (on YouTube I wasn’t there!) and hear each of those interpretations as much as finding out which songs he has chosen. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook you may have seen earlier versions of these as I posted them through the month. However at they’ve all been replaced with higher quality versions including some now pro-shot HD versions from Bruce himself. Apologies for the quality of some, but in the spirit of the moment forgive us.
