It’s been a busy wee while for the Pixies. Following the sad news in the middle of June that Kim Deal was leaving what was seemingly an inert band, we have had the release of ‘Bagboy’, the first new music from the band in 9 years. With Jeremy Dubs, who is on Black Francis’ The Bureau label, replacing Kim on bass and vocals, the song has a nice groove. All the favourite Pixies elements are there, quirky lyrics, building layers of Joey Santiago’s guitar and all underpinned by Dave Lovering’s drums.
It definitely bodes well for what will hopefully be a new album that’ll come out to coincide with the tour that was announced this morning. It was also announced that Kim Shattuck of The Muffs will be replacing Deal for the tour. Featuring only 4 shows in the UK & Ireland, including a night at the famous Glasgow Barrowlands; a sterling venue underused in the city of late. I would advise you get in there quick for a ticket.
