It was announced today that Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman has passed away as a result of liver failure. He was 49.
Jeff had been outside of the band’s recent performances as a result of contracting necrotizing fasciitis in 2011. Slayer’s later performances have been with Gary Holt (Exodus) and Pat O’Brien (Cannibal Corpse). Jeff was not able to rejoin the band as a result of his illness.
