New Band Spotlight: Matchstickmen

Who are you and where do you hail from? We are Matchstickmen – A four piece rock band from Liverpool, the home of rock n’ roll. We’re here to finish what the Beatles started.

Please introduce the band members. Lewis Wright – Vocals, Peter Donnelly – Guitar, Iain Forsyth – Bass and introducing Mark O’Brien – Drums. Lewis Wright serenades using a sure 58 microphone and a cheeky megaphone and gyrates on a straight microphone floor stand with heavy solid round base. Peter uses a PRS SE (sexy edition) custom 24 with Marshal JCM 2000 amp on a 1930′s cab and a floorboard of stompbox goodness. And also pink plecs so no one robs them. Iain rocks a Hartke3500 head, Ashdown Refrigerator, six strings of pure bass rage… and a big muff!…  and Mark… well… he bangs shit, tama stylee.

How would you describe your sound? It’s OUR sound. Although we have many influences that transcend decades of rock and blues music, what we produce is a noise that is uncompromising and yet truthful to ourselves - Hard rock with mixtures of everything you love.

Who are your biggest influences? The ones who did it best! Hendrix, Guns N Roses, Deep Purple, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Black Sabbath… too many to name.

Our readers will like your music because… We tell them to!  (only kidding!) It’s because it’s very varied and diverse. It’s enjoyed by a huge demographic. Mainly your readers will like it because they’re not stupid people and intelligent people like our music… It’s not your run of the mill bullshit.

What’s the best gig you’ve played so far?  Our album launch gig was pretty sweet – we rocked that joint and, to be fair, the warm up band had challenged us to bring our A game. Challenge accepted! All of our gigs seem as big to us now, we give our all every night because we love doing what were doing!

What’s the bands greatest personal achievement to date?  No matter what happens on this journey, we always hit the ground running. We’ve grown as a band and have finally made room for our real talents to shine.

Where can we get your music from? HMV, iTunes, Amazon, Play.com and a hell of a lotmore physical and digital retailers.

Can our readers see you live soon?
