It’s time to introduce you all to another up and coming young band in our “New Band Spotlight” section. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you De’Nova.
Who are you and where do you hail from?
We are DE’NOVA, a four piece alternative rock band from Manchester, UK.
Please introduce the band members.
Kevin Daos (18): Vocals & Guitar
Luca Nardella (18): Guitar
Sam Hardman (17): Bass Guitar
Ryan Powell (18): Drums
How would you describe your sound?
We get asked this a lot and we are never too sure how to answer it. When we are writing our songs we aim to make the music express the emotion of the lyrics as best we can, to really capture the feeling and make it burst with energy and passion. People have compared us to bands such as Taking Back Sunday, 30 Seconds to Mars and Paramore, this is always a great compliment.
There’s a maturity to your music that’s surprising considering how young you all look in the video for “In This Silence”. How long have you been together as a band?
From the day we started we have always took this very seriously. We have been together since we were 13 mostly doing covers and growing as musicians. Now we really understand what music does for us, our songs really come from the heart and are true so we kind of get lost in it all and we think that shows when we perform live.
De’Nova is an unusual band name. How did it come about?
We wanted a name that was totally brand new. A name that nobody has used or head before. De’novo means new in latin. We chose to change to De’Nova because Nova is an explosion in a star, together we all thought it sounded perfect for us and our band.
Who are your biggest influences?
We all like different types of music, our bands main influences are like Foo Fighters, Taking Back Sunday, Paper Route to heavier bands such as Slipknot, Saosin and Underoath. Pretty mixed but what we think all of these bands have in common is it’s real music about real life situations and you can really feel that off the energy they give off and that’s what we love.
People will like your music because…
It’s new and we think it is something that people can definitely latch on to. Each song has individuality and create different textures and atmospheres, it doesn’t have an age certificate and absolutely anyone can get something from the music we make. We know a few fans that are over the age of 40 that can’t wait for our album.
Best gig you’ve played so far?
We have never really thought of this, we guess some of our favourite shows would be some of the bigger supports we have done with Elliot Minor and Deaf Havana.
What do you consider the bands greatest achievement to date?
Writing the album. We are currently recording our debut album, it should be complete around June. We will be uploading some songs from it on our Facebook bandpage and other websites. We hope this takes us further and we hope people love it, we couldn’t be prouder!
What’s the link between Luca Nardella Design and De’Nova? Do you create all your own promotional materials? For a small band your promo artwork is very professional looking.
We like to work within music even when we aren’t with De’Nova, Luca designs all creative and promotional materials for bands and ourselves Kevin organises and promotes events in Manchester under the name Avalanche Events, we meet a lot of great bands doing this and make great connections.
How important do you find social networking and the Internet as a source for promoting and communicating with your fans?
It’s pretty much the number one source in making and communicating with fans and other artists, it is important to keep your fans updated and letting them know what you are up to. We have Twitter and Facebook which we update regularly with photos YouTube videos, and shows we have!
